The 2021 movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre serves as a direct sequel to the 1974 original classic. After four decades, Leatherface has been hiding out and living off the grid to avoid any sort of legal repercussions. However, his life of seclusion is uprooted when a group of young friends, driving through Texas, stumble upon his property. The friends are naïve and idealistic, fantasizing about a countryside vacation, unaware of the danger they are about to face.
Once Leatherface has been awakened, he embarks on a murder spree to protect his secrets and shield himself from any outside threats. The young group of friends is quickly hunted down one by one, and they face brutal deaths as a result of Leatherface’s deranged and bloodthirsty tendencies.
The movie explores the origins of Leatherface, including his upbringing and upbringing by his deranged family. With a nod to previous Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, the film also adds new levels of depth to Leatherface's character. In the end, it is revealed that Leatherface has been living a double life in order to protect his secrets – a deadly and dangerous lifestyle that the young friends find themselves trapped in.
