The film Tank was released in 1984 and was directed by Marvin J. Chomsky. It stars James Garner as Sergeant Major Zack Carey, a decorated U.S. Army veteran who moves his family to a small town in Georgia to work as a sergeant at a military base. Along with his family, Carey brings with him his prized possession - a fully restored M4 Sherman tank, which he drives around town, much to the chagrin of some of the locals.

Carey quickly runs afoul of the town sheriff, who is corrupt and abusive in his dealings with the townspeople. When Carey's son, Billy (C. Thomas Howell), is falsely accused of stealing the sheriff's car and sent to jail, Carey decides to take matters into his own hands. He gathers a group of his fellow veterans, including his friend and former tank driver, Cecil (G.D. Spradlin), and hatches a plan to rescue Billy and take down the corrupt sheriff.

The plan involves using the tank to break Billy out of jail and then driving it through the town to confront the sheriff and his men. A wild and action-packed chase ensues, as the tank rumbles through the streets, crushing cars and buildings in its path. In the end, Carey and his allies are able to defeat the sheriff and restore justice to the town.
