Drama,War  Estonia,Georgia

Tangerines is a critically acclaimed Estonian-Georgian film directed by Zaza Urushadze. The movie tells the story of Ivo, a humble Estonian farmer who has chosen to stay behind in his village in Abkhazia to harvest his tangerines despite the escalating conflict between Abkhazian separatists and Georgian troops.

One day, a skirmish erupts outside Ivo's house and two wounded soldiers are left behind. One is a Chechen mercenary fighting on the Abkhazian side, and the other is a Georgian soldier. Ivo gives them shelter and medical aid in his home, despite being a pacifist and wanting no part in the conflict. As the two soldiers slowly recover, they develop a deep sense of gratitude towards Ivo, and even form a bond with each other despite being on opposing sides.

The movie explores themes of humanity, compassion, forgiveness, and the futility of war. It also touches on the issues of nationalism and identity. With powerful performances and stunning cinematography, Tangerines won numerous awards, including the Best Foreign Language Film nomination at the 2015 Oscars. It is a heart-warming and thought-provoking film that reminds us of the power of kindness and empathy.
