Tammy is a 2014 American comedy film directed by Ben Falcone and written by Falcone and Melissa McCarthy. The film stars Melissa McCarthy as the titular character Tammy, a woman in her forties who is down on her luck and finds herself at a crossroads in her life. Tammy has just lost her job at a fast food restaurant and discovered that her husband has been having an affair.
With nowhere else to turn, Tammy decides to hit the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother Pearl, played by Susan Sarandon. The two embark on a journey of self-discovery that sees them encounter a variety of eccentric characters along the way.
As Tammy and Pearl travel through the American South, they get into a series of misadventures that push their relationship to the brink. However, as they confront their pasts and their present, they begin to bond as granddaughter and grandmother, and ultimately discover a newfound sense of purpose and belonging.
Tammy was met with mixed reviews from critics but was generally praised for the chemistry between McCarthy and Sarandon and the film's heartwarming moments. It was a commercial success, grossing over $100 million worldwide.
