Tara Jones, a successful writer, returns to her family ranch in Montana to write an article about her lifelong passion for horses. She is greeted by her family and friends, who are excited to see her after all these years. But Tara is carrying a heavy burden. She has not ridden a horse in years and her marriage failed because her husband, who was a professional polo player, cheated on her. Tara blames herself for not being able to forgive him and move on.

As Tara spends time on the ranch, she meets an old friend, Ben, who has always been in love with her. They rekindle their friendship and Tara starts to realize that her passion for horses has not died. She decides to start riding again, but she is terrified to get back on a horse. Ben helps her overcome her fears and together they start training in preparation for a local rodeo.

As Tara trains, she discovers the real reason why she stopped riding horses. Her father, who was also a professional rodeo rider, died in a tragic accident while competing in a rodeo. Tara could not handle the loss and blamed herself for not being able to save him. Ben helps her come to terms with her past and gives her the courage to ride again.

On the day of the rodeo, Tara and Ben compete together and win first place. Tara feels alive again and realizes that her passion for horses is what has been missing in her life. She also learns that forgiveness is possible and that she does not have to carry her past with her forever. In the end, Tara decides to stay on the ranch and continue riding horses, surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends.
