The American girl, Kim, originally meets a French man named Peter while in Paris and agrees to go on a trip with him to see his friend's band play. However, Peter turns out to be involved with the human traffickers and helps them kidnap Kim from her apartment.
Kim's father, Bryan Mills, is a retired CIA agent who has experience rescuing hostages and is now working as a security consultant. He immediately flies to Paris to begin his search for his daughter.
Bryan visits his former colleagues from the CIA and uses his contacts to track down the kidnappers. He eventually locates their hideout and successfully fights his way through their defenses to rescue Kim.
Throughout the movie, Bryan uses his skills in combat and espionage to gather information and track down the kidnappers. He also faces internal struggles as he tries to come to terms with not being able to protect his daughter as well as he thought he could.
The movie ends with Bryan and Kim returning to the United States and being reunited with their family.
