Tai-Pan is a 1986 film based on the novel of the same title by James Clavell. The story follows Dirk Struan, a ruthless and ambitious trader who becomes the Tai-Pan (supreme leader) of the powerful British trading company Noble House in Hong Kong.
As the British begin to establish their dominance in Hong Kong, Dirk Struan battles against his rivals and faces challenges from the local Chinese authorities. He also struggles with personal demons, including his love for a beautiful Chinese woman named May-May, and his long-standing rivalry with Tyler Brock, an American sailor and fellow trader.

His ruthless tactics and disregard for morality and loyalty end up alienating him from his friends and allies, and he is forced to confront the consequences of his actions.
