Swing Shift is a 1984 film directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, and Christine Lahti. The film is set in 1941, during World War II, and follows the story of Kay Walsh (Hawn), a happy housewife who takes a job at a local aircraft plant when her husband enlists in the military after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

At the aircraft plant, Kay meets Hazel (Lahti), a singer from across the way who quickly becomes her best friend. Together with the other girls, they become expert workers, building planes for the war effort. As they work tirelessly day and night, Kay begins to develop feelings for her trumpet-playing foreman, Jack (Russell), despite her loyalty to her husband.

As the war drags on and the workload becomes more demanding, tensions rise between the women and the men at the plant. Kay struggles to balance her feelings for Jack with her love for her husband and her commitment to the war effort. When her husband comes home on leave, Kay is forced to make a difficult decision about her future.

Swing Shift is a poignant and realistic portrayal of the impact of war on ordinary Americans and the sacrifices they made to support the war effort. The film received critical acclaim for its performances, particularly Goldie Hawn's portrayal of Kay, and its depiction of the lives of women during World War II.
