The 2008 film Surveillance follows an FBI agent named Elizabeth Anderson (played by Julia Ormond) as she tracks a notorious serial killer who has been targeting travelers along a desolate stretch of highway. To aid her investigation, Anderson enlists the help of three survivors who were present during the killer's latest spree: a troubled young girl named Stephanie (Ryan Simpkins), a gruff and unpredictable man named Bobbi (Pell James), and a chatty and nervous couple named Sam (Kent Harper) and Lou (Caroline Aaron).
Through a series of interviews and flashbacks, each survivor provides their own unique perspective on the killer's behavior and motives. However, as Anderson delves deeper into the case, she realizes that nothing is as it seems. The survivors' stories begin to contradict each other, and it becomes clear that they may not be telling the whole truth. With tensions rising and the killer still on the loose, Anderson must unravel the conflicting accounts and root out the real killer before it's too late.
Surveillance is directed by Jennifer Chambers Lynch and co-written by Lynch and Kent Harper. The film received mixed reviews upon release, with some praising its tense atmosphere and unpredictable twists, while others criticized its gratuitous violence and excessive gore. Nonetheless, the film has gained a cult following over the years and is lauded for its unique approach to the serial killer thriller genre.
