After defeating Lex Luthor in the first movie, Superman continues to live his double life as Clark Kent at the Daily Planet. Meanwhile, on the planet Krypton, three criminals are freed from their imprisonment in the Phantom Zone after the planet's destruction, including General Zod, Ursa, and Non. They make their way to Earth and discover their newfound powers in the process.
Seeking to rule over the planet, the Kryptonians use their powers to wreak havoc and destruction, even causing Superman to relinquish his powers in order to protect Lois from Zod. As a result, Zod and his allies take over the White House and force the President of the United States to surrender to them.
Desperate to regain his powers, Superman seeks the help of the Fortress of Solitude and is able to restore himself. He then engages in a battle with the Kryptonians, resulting in numerous destruction and chaos in Metropolis.
Ultimately, Superman is able to defeat Zod and the other Kryptonians, sending them back to the Phantom Zone. He then reverses the damage they had caused, including reviving a lost Lois Lane.
In the end, Superman decides to remain a superhero and the world celebrates their savior's victory over the Kryptonian threat.
