Superman: Doomsday is an animated movie released in 2007, and it tells the story of Superman's encounter with Doomsday, an indestructible creature that threatens to destroy Metropolis and the world. The movie takes inspiration from the "The Death of Superman" storyline from the 1990s comics, where Doomsday first appeared and brutally killed Superman.
In the movie, Lex Luthor's LexCorp unwittingly unleashes Doomsday from deep inside the Earth, where it was imprisoned for millennia. Doomsday soon wreaks havoc in Metropolis, battling Superman in a brutal fight that leads to the Man of Steel's apparent death. Superman's death triggers a global mourning, with his friends, allies, and foes grieving his loss.
Meanwhile, Lex Luthor conducts experiments on Superman's body, hoping to harness his powers and create his army of superhumans. However, Superman's body begins to regenerate, and he's soon back to life, ready to face Doomsday once again. Superman and Doomsday engage in a final battle that tests the limits of their powers, ultimately leading to Doomsday's defeat.
Superman: Doomsday offers a thrilling and emotional adaptation of one of the most iconic comic book storylines. The film's animation style and action sequences are impressive, and the voice cast, led by Adam Baldwin as Superman and James Marsters as Lex Luthor, does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.
