The offshore drilling accident occurs when an oil company is drilling in the depths of the ocean and accidentally taps into an underwater cavern where the prehistoric super shark has been trapped for millions of years. The shark is slowly released from its slumber and begins attacking anything in its path. It soon makes its way to the surface and starts wreaking havoc on nearby towns.
Kat Carmichael is a dedicated marine biologist who arrives on the scene to investigate the attacks and study the shark. However, she quickly realizes that the oil company is more concerned with protecting their profits than dealing with the danger the shark poses. Roger Wade, the corporate front man, is particularly hostile towards Kat and tries to thwart her efforts at every turn.
With the help of Skipper Chuck and disc jockey Dynamite Stevens, Kat embarks on a mission to find a way to defeat the shark. They discover that the shark has evolved to a state where it can walk on dry land and even fly, making it more dangerous than ever. As the shark continues its rampage, Kat and her team come up with a plan to lure it away from populated areas and ultimately defeat it.
