Sunlight Jr. is a gritty drama film that follows the lives of two working-class people, Melissa and Richie, as they struggle to make ends meet in a dreary, run-down Florida town. Melissa works as a cashier at a convenience store called Sunlight Jr., while Richie is a former construction worker who was paralyzed in an accident and now lives in a rundown motel.
Despite their difficult circumstances, Melissa and Richie are deeply in love and find joy in their relationship. Melissa is overjoyed when she learns she is pregnant, and the two excitedly plan for the future.
However, their situation soon takes a turn for the worse. Melissa's boss at the Quickie-mart store is unsympathetic to her pregnancy and cuts her hours, making it even harder for her to afford the basics like rent, utilities, and food. Meanwhile, Richie's disability benefits are cut off, leaving the two struggling to make ends meet.
Despite their hardships, Melissa and Richie remain determined to build a life together. They try to find work and support each other as best they can, but the mounting financial pressure and constant setbacks threaten to tear them apart.
Through all their struggles, Melissa and Richie's love for each other remains strong, even as they face crushing poverty, homelessness, and the looming threat of losing everything they've worked so hard to build.
