Sullivan's Travels is a 1941 comedy-drama directed and written by Preston Sturges. The film follows John L. Sullivan, played by Joel McCrea, a successful director who is tired of making frivolous comedies and wants to make a socially relevant film that captures the struggles of the working class.
However, Sullivan's studio executives are against his idea and argue that he cannot truly understand poverty and suffering since he has never experienced it himself. Determined to prove them wrong, Sullivan dresses as a homeless man and sets out on a journey to experience the hardships firsthand.
Along the way, Sullivan meets a young aspiring actress, played by Veronica Lake, who becomes his companion. They hop trains, sleep in hobo camps, and face a wide range of challenges such as hunger, fatigue, and dangerous encounters with dangerous characters.

Eventually, Sullivan manages to escape and reunites with his companion, who has been working to free him. Grateful for her loyalty, Sullivan finally realizes the value of comedy and decides to continue making lighthearted films that bring joy to the masses.
