Sudden Impact is the fourth film in the Dirty Harry movie series and was released in 1983. It stars Clint Eastwood as the iconic San Francisco police detective Harry Callahan. In this film, Harry is on suspension after killing a gang of criminals in a bank robbery shootout. While on suspension, he travels to a small coastal town to investigate a series of murders related to a rape that occurred years ago.
The film opens with a young woman, Jennifer Spencer (played by Sondra Locke), being brutally raped along with her younger sister by a group of men who then escapes without any consequence. Jennifer's sister becomes catatonic after the attack and is never the same, eventually committing suicide. Jennifer herself leaves and takes matters into her own hands, hunting down and killing each of her attackers.
Years later, Jennifer's killing spree has led her to the coastal town of San Paulo, where she continues to track down and eliminate her attackers. Harry Callahan eventually becomes involved in the case and finds himself attracted to Jennifer's vigilante justice tactics.
As the body count rises, Harry must balance his desire to bring Jennifer to justice with his own moral code. Along the way, he faces corrupt local law enforcement and must use his wit and gunfighting skills to survive.
Sudden Impact is known for its famous catchphrase "Go ahead, make my day" uttered by Harry as he confronts a would-be robber. The film was well-received by audiences and critics alike, becoming the highest-grossing film in the Dirty Harry franchise and solidifying Eastwood's status as an action movie icon.
