Brett Eisenberg is a 23-year-old aspiring editor living in New York City. She works as a publishing assistant, but dreams of one day becoming a big-time editor. Brett's boss is a demanding and overbearing woman who constantly criticizes her work. To make matters worse, Brett's boyfriend, a struggling writer, breaks up with her.
Feeling lost and alone, Brett meets Archie Knox, an older man who is a successful editor. The two begin a relationship, despite their age difference and Archie's struggle with alcoholism and diabetes. Brett is determined to help Archie get past his problems, even if it means sacrificing her own dreams.
Meanwhile, Brett's father is dying of cancer. Through her interactions with her father, Brett gains a new perspective on life, love and the pursuit of happiness. As she juggles her relationship with Archie and her career aspirations, Brett must confront her own self-doubt and insecurities.
Suburban Girl is based on the novel The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank. The film stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Brett and Alec Baldwin as Archie. It explores themes of love, loss, self-discovery and personal growth.
