Drama  United States of America

Submission is a 2018 drama film directed by Jafar Panahi, starring Lars Eidinger as Arash, a mixed martial arts fighter and former marine who was taken captive and tortured by ISIS in Syria. He returns to the United States with fellow marine, Ali (Mohammad-Ali Behboudi), and struggles with trauma and PTSD. Arash's wife and young daughter try to support him, but he becomes increasingly isolated and disconnected from his previous life.

Meanwhile, Ali becomes a sensation in the MMA world, using his experience as a prisoner of war to win fights and gain attention from sponsors. Arash is resentful of Ali's success, feeling that he himself has been left behind. He begins to spiral out of control, using drugs and alcohol to cope with his trauma.

As Arash's behavior becomes more erratic, his wife and daughter beg him to seek help. He eventually begins therapy with a psychiatrist and slowly starts to confront his trauma and attempt to reconnect with the world around him.

Submission is a poignant exploration of the effects of war and trauma on individuals and their loved ones, as well as a commentary on the pursuit of fame and success in the world of combat sports. The film was well received by critics and was praised for its strong performances and sensitive handling of heavy subject matter.
