Submarine is a coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Richard Ayoade and based on the novel of the same name by Joe Dunthorne. The film follows the story of Oliver Tate, a 15-year-old boy from Wales who is constantly navigating the challenges of young love and the unravelling of his parents’ marriage.
Oliver is an introverted and introspective teenager who is obsessed with his own intelligence and desirability. He has a crush on Jordana, a tough and edgy classmate, and he tries to impress her by any means necessary, even if it means pushing away his best friend, growing a terrible mustache, or hacking into his own school’s computer system.

His mother, Jill, is a neurotic and frustrated woman who is tempted by an ex-boyfriend who has moved back to the neighbourhood.
The film explores Oliver’s struggles to find his place in the world and to come to terms with the complexities of adulthood and relationships. It blends humour, drama, and romance to create a poignant and quirky story about growing up and finding love in the unlikeliest of places.
