The movie "Struck by Lightning" is a black comedy-drama film that follows the story of Carson Phillips, a high-school senior who dreams of escaping his mundane small town. Carson is a witty and ambitious teenager who wants to attend Northwestern University and, ultimately, become a journalist. To make his dreams a reality, Carson decides to blackmail his fellow classmates, who he believes are not creative enough, into contributing to his literary magazine.
Carson's plan is to use the information he has gathered from his classmates' secrets and weaknesses to force them into helping him. Slowly, his classmates start opening up to him, and Carson begins to learn more about their struggles. Throughout the movie, Carson attempts to connect with his estranged father and deal with his alcoholic mother while juggling his duties as the editor-in-chief of the literary magazine.
However, in a tragic turn of events, Carson is struck by lightning and killed shortly before the magazine is published. This tragic event causes the school to come together to celebrate Carson's life and to finally appreciate the artistic talents that he had been trying to cultivate in his classmates.
The film features a talented cast, including Chris Colfer as Carson, and supporting performances from Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks, and Dermot Mulroney. Struck by Lightning is a poignant and evocative movie that tackles themes of creativity, bullying, and the harsh realities of growing up.
