Riz is a young woman who has come to America from India with the hope of starting a new life. She takes a job at a rundown motel in upstate New York where she meets Una, her roommate and fellow employee.
Una is a tough-talking, street-smart woman who takes Riz under her wing. However, Riz soon discovers that Una and the other employees at the motel are in fact criminals, involved in various illegal activities such as theft, drug dealing and prostitution.
Despite her initial reluctance, Riz finds herself drawn into Una's world and becomes embroiled in their illicit activities. As the situation spirals out of control, Riz is forced to confront her own morality and decide whether to continue down the path of crime or to find a way out.
Meanwhile, the motel's owner, played by Cynthia Nixon, becomes suspicious of Riz and begins to investigate her background, leading to a tense and dramatic finale.
Stray Dolls is a gritty and suspenseful thriller that explores themes of identity, loyalty and redemption. The film features strong performances from its cast, particularly newcomer Geetanjali Thapa as Riz, and is a haunting portrait of immigrant life on the fringes of society.
