Desiree is a seventeen-year-old African-American girl living in a poverty-stricken neighborhood. Growing up in a broken family and surrounded by the lure of drugs and violence, she dreams of escaping her challenging environment and making a better life for herself.
Desiree's troubled life takes a tragic turn when she falls in love with Jamal, a charismatic but dangerous young man heavily involved in the drug trade.
