The Lunar Base Ark is a research facility on the moon where a small crew has been living for an extended period of time. They are exploring for valuable minerals and conducting experiments that could potentially benefit Earth. However, one day a meteor shower hits the facility and does significant damage. The crew must work together to repair the base and stay alive in a hostile environment.
The main character, Ava Cameron, is tasked with repairing a damaged wing of the facility that is filled with CO2. She is warned by Dr. Lance Krauss, a scientist on the base, that the gas can cause hallucinations and paranoia. Despite his warning, Ava takes on the task and inadvertently comes into contact with a meteor fragment that has strange spores attached to it.
Shortly after handling the meteor, Ava becomes ill and discovers she is pregnant. She believes that the child is not entirely human, but when she shares her concerns with her superiors, they do not take her seriously. As the pregnancy progresses, Ava begins to experience strange visions and starts to believe that the alien within her is taking over her body.
Meanwhile, the crew finds out that one of their members, Bruce Johns, has been cloned by the alien and the new version of him is incredibly dangerous. They must work together to stop the clone and save themselves before it's too late.
The story is a classic science fiction tale of isolation, paranoia, and the fight for survival. It explores the lengths people will go to in order to protect themselves and the danger of trusting our own instincts in the face of the unknown.
