Dr. Sam Rice, a psychiatrist, is shocked to find out that one of his patients, a beautiful young artist named George, has been murdered. When a detective approaches him for questioning, Rice becomes evasive and refuses to cooperate, suspecting that it might damage his reputation.
When Rice receives a phone call from George's mistress, Brooke Reynolds, he decides to meet her in secret. Despite being a suspect in the murder case, Rice is mesmerized by her and begins to develop feelings for her. As they investigate the case together, they discover that George had dark secrets he had been hiding from both of them.
Meanwhile, Rice's professional and personal life begins to unravel. The police investigation continues to put pressure on him, and his estranged wife starts to become suspicious of his relationship with Brooke. Rice soon discovers that someone is after him, and he begins to fear for his life.
