Stick It is a 2006 sports comedy-drama film directed by Jessica Bendinger, who also wrote the screenplay. The film follows Haley Graham (played by Missy Peregrym), a rebellious and talented gymnast who gets herself in trouble with the law after she walks out during a regional competition and vandalizes a building. As punishment, a judge sentences her to the Vickerman Gymnastics Academy, one of the most prestigious gymnastics programs in the country.
At the academy, Haley clashes with her tough and demanding coach, Burt Vickerman (played by Jeff Bridges), who is determined to turn her into a champion. Haley initially resents the strict regimen and the emphasis on conformity, but eventually she begins to appreciate the discipline and the sense of purpose that comes with being a gymnast. She also makes friends with several of the other girls in her class, including Joanne Charis (played by Vanessa Lengies) and Wei Wei Yong (played by Nikki SooHoo).
As Haley trains for the national championships, she faces a number of obstacles, including injuries, rivalries with other gymnasts, and her own self-doubt. However, with the encouragement of her coach and her friends, she learns to overcome these obstacles and to believe in herself.
Stick It received mixed reviews from critics, but it was generally praised for its energetic direction, its sassy humor, and its fresh perspective on competitive gymnastics. The film also features a memorable soundtrack, with music by artists such as Pink, Missy Elliott, and Simple Plan.
