Tyler Gage is a troubled teen who ends up in the Maryland School of the Arts after he and his friends break into the school to vandalize it. While there, he meets Nora, who is impressed by his dance moves. She convinces him to dance with her in one of her upcoming performances, and they become dance partners. As the two become closer, Nora helps Tyler refine his raw talent, and he becomes an integral part of her dance team.
While Tyler is a natural performer, his lack of classical training puts him at a disadvantage, and he finds it difficult to keep up with the demands of the school's strict curriculum. At the same time, he struggles to fit in with Nora's upper-class friends and family, who view him as an outsider.
