Stealing Chaplin is a dark comedy inspired by a real-life event that occurred in Switzerland in 1978. The movie follows two brothers, Alfie and Frankie, who are struggling to make ends meet in their small town in Ireland. Desperate for money, they come up with a plan to steal Charlie Chaplin's body and hold it for ransom.

The brothers travel to Switzerland, where Chaplin is buried, and dig up his coffin. They then demand a ransom of $600,000 from the Chaplin family, threatening to destroy the body if they don't pay up.

The Chaplin family is hesitant to negotiate with the kidnappers, but eventually, they enlist the help of a private investigator named Smith to track down the body and bring the criminals to justice.

As the ransom deadline approaches, tensions mount between the brothers, and their plan begins to unravel. They find themselves on the run from the law, and from other criminals who want to get their hands on the ransom money.

Despite the serious subject matter, Stealing Chaplin is filled with quirky characters and absurd plot twists that make it an entertaining and humorous ride. The movie also pays homage to Charlie Chaplin's legacy, featuring clips from his films and touching on the controversy surrounding his burial in Switzerland.
