Comedy,Romance  United States of America

Starting Over is a romantic comedy-drama film that was released in 1979. It was directed by Alan J. Pakula and starred Burt Reynolds, Candice Bergen, and Jill Clayburgh in lead roles. The film is based on a novel by Dan Wakefield.

The story revolves around Phil Potter (Burt Reynolds), a middle-aged man who is trying to start his life over after being divorced by his ambitious wife, Jessica (Candice Bergen). He moves to Boston and decides to teach at a local community college. There he meets Marilyn Holmberg (Jill Clayburgh), a sweet-natured nursery school teacher who is going through a divorce of her own.

Phil and Marilyn develop feelings for each other and begin dating. However, Phil cannot seem to get over his ex-wife and his memories of their life together keep haunting him. He even goes to see a therapist to try and work through his emotions.

Just when he starts to think he has moved on, Jessica shows up at his doorstep, wanting to reconcile. She even wrote a song for him that she performs in front of him, but it only makes him realize that he still loves Marilyn.

In the end, Phil decides to choose Marilyn, but not before some hilariously awkward moments with Jessica, including a disastrous dinner party. The film ends with Phil and Marilyn starting a new life together, while Jessica moves on with her career.

Starting Over was well-received by critics and audiences alike. It was praised for its charming performances, witty script, and relatable storyline. Clayburgh was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the film.
