Brian, played by James McAvoy, is a working-class youth from a small town in Essex who dreams of attending the University of Bristol. He wins a scholarship to attend the prestigious university and is thrilled to be accepted into the Challenge team, a group of students who compete in the hit TV show, University Challenge.
As he embarks on his new life, Brian struggles to fit in with his wealthy and privileged peers at Bristol. He finds himself attracted to Alice, played by Alice Eve, a beautiful upper-class girl who is also a member of the team. Despite her warnings about the perils of falling in love at university, Brian becomes infatuated with her and pursues her relentlessly.
As the team prepares to compete in the national finals of University Challenge, Brian navigates his way through the complexities of university life, dealing with class differences, romantic relationships, and temptation. Eventually, he must confront the reality of his situation and decide whether to pursue his academic dreams or follow his heart.
