In the movie Starcrash, the smugglers in question are Stella Star, played by Caroline Munro, and Akton, played by Marjoe Gortner. They are being pursued by the authorities when they come across a small escape pod containing a survivor of a doomed mission, named Elle, played by Nadia Cassini.
Elle reveals that she was part of a team sent by the Emperor to destroy a powerful weapon that has fallen into the hands of the evil Count Zartharn, played by Joe Spinell. The weapon is capable of destroying entire planets, and Zartharn plans to use it to conquer the galaxy.
The Emperor, played by Christopher Plummer, enlists Stella and Akton to finish the mission and destroy the weapon. They embark on a perilous journey, encountering various dangers and obstacles, including space battles, giant robots, and a deadly maze.
Along the way, they are joined by Elle and Thor, a robot companion of Akton's. They also learn that the Emperor's son has been captured by Zartharn and must be rescued before the weapon can be destroyed.
The group ultimately infiltrates Zartharn's stronghold and engages in a final battle to destroy the weapon and rescue the Emperor's son.
Despite its low budget and derivative plot, Starcrash has gained a cult following for its colorful visuals and cheesy charm. It also features a memorable cameo by David Hasselhoff as a space pilot.
