In addition to investigating the assassination attempt on Senator Amidala, the Jedi Knights discover that a separatist movement, led by former Jedi Count Dooku, is gathering forces and building an army of battle droids. Meanwhile, Anakin and Padmé develop feelings for each other, despite Jedi teachings forbidding attachment and love. Anakin also experiences visions of his mother in danger and travels to his home planet of Tatooine to save her. However, he is unable to prevent her death, and in a rage, he slaughters a tribe of Sand People. As the Clone Wars loom on the horizon, the secret plot to create an army of clones is revealed, and the Jedi must confront the implications of their involvement in the upcoming conflict.
