Star 80 is a biographical drama film directed by Bob Fosse, based on the life and death of Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten. The film stars Eric Roberts as Paul Snider and Mariel Hemingway as Dorothy Stratten.
The film portrays how Paul Snider met Dorothy while she was working at a Dairy Queen in Canada. Paul was able to launch Dorothy's career by submitting photos of her to Playboy, which eventually led to her becoming a Playmate of the Month.
As Dorothy's career takes off, Paul's jealousy and control over her increase. He becomes abusive both emotionally and physically towards her. Dorothy tries to leave him, but Paul's threats and manipulation keep her with him, until she falls in love with film director Peter Bogdanovich. Paul becomes enraged and feels that he is losing control of Dorothy.
In the end, Paul murders Dorothy before killing himself. The film is a tragic portrayal of the relationship between Dorothy and Paul and the dangers of the dark side of fame.
