Spontaneous is a dark comedy/thriller movie directed by Brian Duffield and released in 2020. The story revolves around two teenagers, Mara (Katherine Langford) and Dylan (Charlie Plummer), who attend a high school where students are literally exploding without any explanation.
As the school and the entire country go into panic mode following the first few deaths, Mara and Dylan begin to form a friendship that quickly turns into a romance. However, with each passing day, their lives become more uncertain, and they never know when they might explode.
As the casualties mount, the government enlists scientists to find a cause and cure for the deadly phenomenon. In the meantime, Mara and Dylan try to make the most of their remaining time together, but their relationship is constantly threatened by the looming possibility of their sudden death.
