Western,Drama,Thriller  Mexico

Sonora is a dramatic film directed by Alejandro Springall and released in 2019. The film is set in 1931, a time when nationalism and prejudices were running high in many parts of the world. The story revolves around a group of twelve desperate people who decide to cross the Sonoran Desert to seek refuge in Baja California.

The group is made up of different individuals, each with their own reasons for undertaking the journey. There is Jovita, who is pregnant and wants a better life for her child; Marcos, a deported Mexican who yearns to return to his family in the United States; and Chuta, an indigenous Yaqui Indian who has been persecuted for participating in a rebellion.

As the group ventures deeper into the desert, they encounter various obstacles that test their spirit and resolve. They have to navigate dangerous terrain, scorching heat, and treacherous bandits who seek to rob them of their possessions.

However, their biggest challenge turns out to be their own prejudices towards each other. The white members of the group look down on their Mexican and indigenous companions, while the Mexicans and Indians resent the whites for their privilege.

Through their journey, the characters learn to overcome their biases and work together to survive. They form bonds of friendship and loyalty that transcend their differences and teach them the importance of unity in the face of adversity.

Sonora is a poignant and compelling film that captures the struggles of people in a time of great turmoil and uncertainty. It explores themes of migration, racism, and the human spirit, and is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of hardship.
