Action,Drama,Thriller  United States of America

Sonny Boy is a 2011 Dutch drama film directed by Maria Peters. The movie is based on real-life events that occurred in the Netherlands in the 1920s and 1930s. The film tells the story of a young Surinamese man named Waldemar Nods who falls in love with a Dutch woman named Rika van der Lans while studying in Amsterdam. Despite the racist attitudes of society towards mixed-race couples, Waldemar and Rika begin a relationship that leads to them having a child named Waldy.

As they struggle to make ends meet, Waldemar and Rika move around the Netherlands, facing discrimination and hostility wherever they go. Finally, they settle in a small town where they become the only non-whites in the community. Despite this, they are able to build a close-knit group of friends who accept them for who they are.

However, their idyllic life is shattered when the German army invades the Netherlands during World War II. Waldemar and Rika are arrested and sent to different concentration camps. Despite the odds, they are able to find each other again and survive the atrocities of the war.

Sonny Boy is a moving and powerful film that shows the resilience of the human spirit in the face of prejudice and oppression. It offers a glimpse into a dark period of Dutch history while celebrating the triumph of love and the human spirit.
