Upon arriving on Sollgel Island, Goro Maki meets Dr. Y Fujisaki and his team of scientists who are conducting an experiment to control the weather. In their efforts to control the weather, they unintentionally awaken a group of giant mantids (kamacuras) and expose a baby Godzilla, who they begin to refer to as Minilla.
Goro Maki goes on to discover a castaway woman named Saeko Matsumiya who has been living on the island for years. Together, they join forces with the scientists to try and stop the giant mantids from destroying the island and its inhabitants.
Throughout the movie, Minilla struggles to develop his abilities as a young Godzilla and seeks guidance from his father, the King of the Monsters himself. The scientists work to help Minilla mature while also trying to maintain control over the island's weather and prevent a devastating storm from occurring.
In the end, the team's efforts are successful as they manage to defeat the giant mantids and the storm is averted. The film closes with Minilla learning to emit his iconic radioactive breath, as his father Godzilla roars triumphantly in the background.
