Somm 3

Documentary  N/A

Somm 3 is the third installment of the Somm documentary series that explores the world of wine and the people who dedicate their lives to mastering it. The film follows two parallel storylines: one in Paris and the other in New York City.

In Paris, three wine legends, Fred Dame, Steven Spurrier, and Jancis Robinson, taste some of the rarest bottles of their careers. They revisit the iconic 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting, where California wines defeated the French wines in a blind tasting. This time, they taste a selection of the most exceptional and expensive wines from around the world, including white wines, red wines, and dessert wines.

In New York City, Master Sommelier Dustin Wilson gathers the greatest blind tasters of today to hold a blind tasting similar to the Judgment of Paris. The goal is to see if any of the world’s Pinot Noirs can stand up to the greatest Burgundies of France, which are widely considered the best Pinot Noirs in the world. The wine experts taste the wines blindly, not knowing which wine is which and which country it is from.

The film shows the intense and challenging process of becoming a Master Sommelier, the highest level of wine expertise, which only 274 people in the world have achieved. The tasting scenes are dramatic, with experts describing the wines in vivid detail, trying to guess their origin and vintage.

In the end, both tastings cross with surprising and unexpected results that challenge some of the long-held beliefs in the world of wine. The film aims to educate and inspire wine lovers and professionals alike, by showing the dedication, passion, and hard work required to master this complex and fascinating subject.
