The movie Some Kind of Hero was released in 1982 and stars Richard Pryor as Eddie Keller, a Vietnam war veteran who returns home after spending five years as a prisoner of war. He is greeted as a hero at first, but soon discovers that his life has drastically changed since he left, and he struggles to adapt to civilian life.

Eddie finds that he is unable to get a job, with employers citing his extended absence from the workforce as a reason for not hiring him. His wife has remarried and moved on, leaving him feeling like he has nowhere to go. The only person who seems to understand him is Toni, a prostitute played by Margot Kidder, who becomes his friend and confidant.

Determined not to give up on his life, Eddie hatches a plan to rob a bank with a group of fellow Vietnam veterans, hoping to use the money to get a fresh start. However, things don't go as planned, and Eddie ends up getting shot. He is then forced to go on the run from both the police and the veterans he planned the robbery with.

Throughout the movie, Eddie struggles to come to terms with the harsh reality of life outside of the military and the physical and mental scars he has from his time as a prisoner of war. Some Kind of Hero tackles themes of post-traumatic stress disorder, the mistreatment of veterans, and the difficulties of readjusting to civilian life after serving in the military.
