S.O.B.

Comedy  United States of America

S.O.B. is a 1981 satirical comedy film directed by Blake Edwards, and stars Julie Andrews, William Holden, and Richard Mulligan.

The story revolves around a successful movie producer named Felix Farmer (Richard Mulligan), who has just suffered a major setback after his most recent film, Night Wind, was a complete disaster. Despite investing a lot of money and effort, the film failed to resonate with audiences and critics alike, and it seems like Farmer's career is over.

Determined to save his reputation, Felix comes up with a wild plan to revamp Night Wind as an R-rated pornographic film, hoping that the explicit scenes will draw audiences in. He hires a sleazy director named Tim Culley (Robert Preston) to take over the project, and convinces his biggest movie star, his wife Sally Miles (Julie Andrews), to appear topless in the film's reshot scenes.

Felix faces a series of obstacles in his quest to make the new version of Night Wind a hit, including dealing with angry actors, confronting his personal demons, and trying to keep the production secret from the public. Meanwhile, Sally begins to question her own value as an actress and the price she's willing to pay for fame and fortune.

As the film progresses, Felix's desperation grows, and his mental and emotional stability start to unravel. The movie climaxes with a chaotic and absurd outdoor screening of the film, which brings together a motley crew of characters and ends in a spectacularly self-destructive Grand Guignol finale.

S.O.B. is a biting satire that skewers the entertainment industry's excesses, greed, and hypocrisy. It also offers a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes machinations of Hollywood, where even a disastrous flop can become a bizarre and twisted bid for redemption.
