Sniper 2 is a 2002 action film directed by Craig R. Baxley and starring Tom Berenger as Sergeant Thomas Beckett. The movie is the sequel to the 1993 hit movie, Sniper.
The movie begins with Sgt. Beckett living in retirement in his ranch in Montana. Meanwhile, a terrorist group takes control over a nuclear plant in Yugoslavia, and the US government seeks Beckett's help. Beckett's superior, Col. David McKenna (played by Bokeem Woodbine), pulls him back into service and assigns him a dangerous mission – to stop a Serbian war criminal named Zoran Lazarevic (played by Rade Šerbedžija) who has been targeted for assassination, and protect a rebellious sniper, B.J. Cole (played by Bokeem Woodbine) who's been sentenced to death for disobeying orders.
Beckett and Cole are flown to Yugoslavia where they initiate their mission. But as they commence the operation, they soon realize that they are working for more than just their country. They discover that the government is playing a dangerous game with them and that they were only sent to Serbia to get Lazarevic's information as the war criminal had been working for the CIA. Beckett and Cole must, therefore, go rogue to protect their own country's interests.
The movie is packed with action sequences, thrilling chase scenes and intense shootouts. It also stars Tammy Lauren as a journalist reporting on the Yugoslavian conflict who gets entangled in the mission, and Linden Ashby as a CIA agent sent to stop Beckett.
Sniper 2 was filmed entirely on location in Bulgaria and was released direct-to-video in the United States. It garnered mixed reviews, with some critics praising the action sequences while others criticized the plot and lack of character development. Regardless, the movie remains a fan favorite and an exciting addition to the Sniper franchise.
