Slipstream is a surreal and mind-bending film directed by Anthony Hopkins himself. The story follows the aging screenwriter Felix Bonhoeffer, played by Hopkins, who is struggling to finish his latest screenplay. Felix is haunted by the voices in his head, the characters from his script who seem to have taken on a life of their own.
As Felix's grip on reality begins to slip, the lines between his fictional world and real life start to blur. Characters from his script start appearing in his life, including a femme fatale named Celia, played by Stella Arroyave, Hopkins' real-life wife. Meanwhile, Felix finds himself getting more and more involved in his characters' lives, even as he begins to fear for his own sanity.
As the film progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult to tell what is real and what is just in Felix's head. The movie's surreal and dreamlike quality is accentuated by its stunning cinematography, with Hopkins making striking use of split-screens and fast cuts to create a disorienting, hallucinatory effect.
Slipstream is a fascinating and challenging film, one that asks big questions about the nature of reality and the creative process. It's a tour-de-force performance by Hopkins, who proves himself to be not just a great actor but a masterful director as well.
