Sleepaway Camp is a 1983 horror film directed by Robert Hiltzik. The film stars Felissa Rose as Angela Baker, a shy and troubled young girl who is sent to summer camp with her cousin Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten) after a tragic accident claims the lives of her family. At camp, Angela is bullied by her fellow campers and ignored by the camp's staff, except for the kindly counselor Meg (Katherine Kamhi).
As the days pass, strange and gruesome accidents begin to happen at the camp, often targeting those who have mistreated Angela. Meanwhile, a local pedophile named Artie (Owen Hughes) becomes increasingly fixated on Angela, leading to uncomfortable and disturbing scenes.
As the climax approaches, the identity of the killer is revealed in a shocking twist that has become famous in horror cinema. Despite mixed reviews upon its initial release, Sleepaway Camp has become a cult classic and is known for its blend of slasher film tropes and psychological horror elements. The film spawned three sequels: Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers, Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland, and Return to Sleepaway Camp.
