Skyfall, the twenty-third installment in the James Bond franchise, follows the story of Bond (Daniel Craig) as he returns to MI6 after a failed assignment in Istanbul. During his return, he is involved in a shooting on a train, which leads to 007 being presumed dead. In reality, Bond has faked his death to carry out an investigation into a cyberterrorist named Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem), who is targeting M (Judi Dench) and MI6.
As MI6 faces threats from both outside and inside, Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) is assigned to oversee the agency's reconstruction. Bond tracks down Silva to an abandoned Japanese island and uncovers his personal vendetta against M. Silva was once an MI6 operative who was abandoned by M and left to die in captivity. Upon his escape and eventual rise as a cyberterrorist, he seeks revenge on M.
Bond and Silva engage in a tense showdown, which ultimately leads to Silva's death and Bond saving M's life. In the end, with M's permission, Bond retires and sails away into the sunset with Eve (Naomie Harris).
Skyfall was praised for its storytelling, cinematography, and performances. It grossed over $1 billion at the box office and won numerous awards, including two Oscars. It remains one of the most critically acclaimed James Bond films of all time.
