The five friends are Alex, Tina, Lindsey, Marcus, and Jason. They are all excited to fly to LA for a weekend getaway, and they board a small private plane they rented. However, in the middle of the flight, they lose radio contact with ground control and cannot get any signal from their phones.
They assume that a major catastrophe has occurred on the ground that has disrupted all communication channels. They start to see smoke and fire in the distance, which only reinforces their fears of a disaster. They try to fly back to New York, but the fuel level is not enough, and they have to find a place to land.
That's when they discover Erik, a young stowaway who begs them not to land. Erik is mysterious, and the group's suspicion grows as they struggle to trust him. Alex, the pilot, decides to land in a small airport in the middle of nowhere, and that's when things start to take a sinister turn.
