Skullduggery is a 1970 adventure film directed by Gordon Douglas and starring Burt Reynolds, Susan Clark, and Roger C. Carmel. The film begins with a young woman named Desiree Thibodeau (Clark) approaching a wealthy collector named Douglas Templeton (Carmel) with a proposition. She claims to know the location of a tribe of ape-like people deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea who may be the missing link between humans and apes. Templeton hires adventurer and ex-CIA agent Douglas McCadden (Reynolds) to lead an expedition into the jungle to find the tribe and capture them for research purposes.

McCadden and his team, which includes a photographer named Grace (Camilla Sparv) and a native guide named Bosky (Rockne Tarkington), journey deep into the jungle and encounter various obstacles, including hostile tribes and treacherous terrain. Eventually, they come across the tribe of ape-like people, who they discover are led by a humanoid creature with a deformed head and a massive skull.

As the team attempts to capture the creatures, they struggle with ethical questions about the morality of exploiting a sentient species for scientific study. Their ethical dilemmas are further complicated when they discover that the creatures are not just mindless animals, but possess language skills and a culture of their own.

The film ends with a dramatic confrontation between McCadden and Templeton, as the former attempts to save the creatures from being exploited and the latter insists on acquiring them for his collection. The film ultimately raises questions about our responsibility to protect and preserve other species and our own evolutionary history.
