Sink or Swim (original title: Le Grand Bain) is a 2018 French comedy-drama film directed by Gilles Lellouche. The film follows a group of middle-aged men who, feeling lost and stranded, decide to form a synchronised swimming team, with the hope that it will give them a renewed sense of purpose and direction in life.
Bertrand (played by Mathieu Amalric) is one of these men. He is a depressed 40-year-old who is struggling to find any joy or meaning in life. Despite being on medication and having the support of his wife (played by Marina Foïs), he is unable to break out of his rut.
One day, Bertrand hears about an all-male synchronised swimming team that is looking for new members. At first, he is hesitant to join, but with some encouragement from his wife and the team's coach (played by Guillaume Canet), he decides to give it a try.
Bertrand and the rest of the team, who are also wrestling with their own personal demons, begin to bond over their shared goal. As they train together and prepare for an upcoming competition, they form strong friendships and find a sense of purpose and satisfaction in their lives that they had been missing.
