Sin Nombre is a 2009 Mexican-American film directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. It tells the story of Sayra, a Honduran teenager who dreams of a better life in the United States. Sayra's life changes when she reunites with her estranged father, who is also trying to immigrate to the United States.
Sayra and her father join a group of immigrants who are traveling through Mexico on a dangerous journey to the U.S. border. Along the way, they encounter a ruthless gang called Mara Salvatrucha. The gang is headed by Willy, a vicious enforcer with a troubled past, and Smiley, a young member desperate to prove himself.
Sayra becomes romantically involved with Casper, a member of Mara Salvatrucha who is on the run from the gang. Together, they try to escape from the gang and make their way to the United States.
The film depicts the difficult realities faced by immigrants who are willing to risk everything to reach a better life. It also shows the brutal violence and dangers of gang life, and the toll it takes on those who are involved in it.
Sin Nombre received critical acclaim for its powerful storytelling and strong performances. The film won several awards, including the Sundance Film Festival's U.S. Dramatic Directing Award and the AFI Fest Audience Award.
