In the movie Silver Streak, the book editor, named George Caldwell, witnesses a murder while on his train journey. The victim, a professor he had met on board, is thrown from the train onto a bridge. However, a corrupt art dealer and his henchmen are working hard to cover up the crime and silence anyone who might learn their secret.
Despite several close calls with the killer and the authorities, George persists in his investigation, determined to bring the murderers to justice. Along the way, he teams up with a beautiful fellow passenger named Hilly Burns and a quirky criminal named Grover T. Muldoon who offers his expertise to help George stay alive and solve the mystery.
As the train journey continues, George and Hilly get closer, and their romance begins to blossom. Meanwhile, the killer closes in, leading to a tense and thrilling showdown in the final act. In the end, George is able to expose the murderers and clear his name, but not without facing many perilous situations along the way.
Silver Streak is a classic action-comedy that features an all-star cast, including Gene Wilder, Richard Pryor, and Jill Clayburgh. Directed by Arthur Hiller and written by Colin Higgins, the movie is a wild ride filled with plenty of laughs, romance, and suspense.
