Silmido is a 2003 South Korean action film directed by Kang Woo-suk, which is loosely based on true events. The movie follows the story of a group of 31 death row inmates who are chosen by the South Korean government to be trained as special forces soldiers for a top-secret mission. The mission is to infiltrate North Korea and assassinate their leader, Kim Il-sung, in retaliation for the failed assassination attempt on the South Korean President.

The inmates are subjected to brutal training and harsh conditions on the island of Silmido, which is located off the southern coast of South Korea. The group of men is constantly monitored and kept in check by the military leaders, who use both physical and psychological tactics to break them down.

As the training progresses, the men start to bond and form close relationships. They begin to question their mission and become disillusioned with their government. However, when the mission is suddenly cancelled, the men feel betrayed and decide to take matters into their own hands. They launch a mutiny against their captors and attempt to hijack a plane to North Korea to carry out the mission themselves.

Silmido is a tense and gripping film that explores the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and brotherhood. It received critical and commercial success upon its release and is considered one of the best Korean films of all time.
