In Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the United States government has declared Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations. Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), a government agent, is tasked with creating a plan to prevent these cartels from smuggling terrorists across the US border. He enlists the help of the mysterious operative Alejandro Gillick (Benicio Del Toro), who has a personal vendetta against one of the cartel leaders.
Their mission becomes complicated when they kidnap the daughter of the cartel leader they are targeting in an attempt to start a war among the cartels. However, their plan backfires when the girl is taken by a rival cartel, and the US government denies any involvement in the kidnapping.
Graver and Gillick must then navigate a dangerous landscape to retrieve the girl and complete their mission, all while being pursued by both the cartels and the US government. As tensions escalate, their beliefs and loyalties are tested, and they must decide if they are willing to sacrifice everything to complete their mission.
