Trapped: A Mother's Fight for Freedom

Horror,Thriller  United States of America

Shut In is a tense psychological thriller directed by Farren Blackburn and released in 2016. The main character, Mary Portman (played by Naomi Watts), is a child psychologist who lives and works in rural Maine with her son, Stephen (Charlie Heaton), who is paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. Mary also takes care of her teenage patient, Tom (Jacob Tremblay), who has been traumatized by the death of his parents in a car accident.

Mary's life is thrown into chaos when a deadly winter storm hits the area and her estranged husband, Richard (Peter Outerbridge), comes back into her life after being released from a mental institution. Richard is a violent and abusive man who is determined to take custody of Stephen and Tom, and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

After a tense confrontation with Richard, Mary wakes up the next morning to find that he has locked her and her children in their isolated house, trapping them in a frozen wasteland with no food, water, or heat. As the situation becomes increasingly dire, Mary must use all her skills and ingenuity to keep her family alive and find a way to escape from Richard's clutches.

Shut In is a gripping and atmospheric thriller that explores themes of motherhood, trauma, and survival. The performances by Naomi Watts, Charlie Heaton, Jacob Tremblay, and Peter Outerbridge are all excellent, and the film's stark, snowy setting adds a palpable sense of isolation and danger. The tension mounts steadily as Mary races against time to outwit her captor and save her family, making Shut In a thrilling and unforgettable cinematic experience.
